The words of the file, in Spanish and Catalan
What the forms, the counters and the Ajuntament’s emails will call things in Barcelona, explained in a line each.
- AAjuntament
- The city council, in Catalan (ayuntamiento in Spanish). In Barcelona it runs the padró, not the NIE.
- Asignación de NIE
- The procedure that gives you a number, requested with form EX-15.
- Autorización de regreso
- Permission to come back to Spain while your TIE is being issued or renewed.
- CCertificado de registro
- The green certificate showing that a citizen of the EU, the EEA or Switzerland is registered as living in Spain; form EX-18.
- Cita previa
- An appointment booked in advance. Police immigration counters see no one without one.
- Comisaría
- A Policía Nacional station. Several in the province of Barcelona list NIE and TIE procedures.
- EEmpadronamiento
- Registering on the padró at your address: padró in Catalan, padrón in Spanish.
- EX-17
- Form used by non-EU residents to apply for their TIE.
- EX-19
- Form for the EU family card of a non-EU husband, wife, partner, child or parent of a European.
- Extranjería
- The everyday name for immigration offices. In Barcelona it covers both the police counters and the immigration office run by the Delegación del Gobierno, which are not the same thing.
- MModelo 790 código 012
- The payment form for the fees of NIE, certificate and TIE procedures.
- NNIE
- Número de Identidad de Extranjero: the identification number Spain assigns to a foreigner, once and for life.
- OOAC
- Oficina d’Atenció Ciutadana, the Ajuntament’s citizen service office, where you register on the padró in person.
- RRégimen Comunitario
- The EU regime: the procedures for EU, EEA and Swiss citizens and for their families.
- Resguardo
- The receipt you are given at an appointment. Keep it until the document itself is in your hands.
- TTIE
- A non-EU resident’s photo card (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero), with fingerprints and the NIE.
- Toma de huellas
- The fingerprint appointment at which a non-EU resident applies for the TIE.
